Changes to our cheque services.

Over the years we've seen the Australian payment landscape change, with the Australian population opting to use digital payment options over more traditional cheque services. As we look ahead, and continue to invest in a range of secure, fast, and reliable payment alternatives, we have made the decision to stop offering cheque services from 31 October 2023.

What does this mean?

From 1 August 2023, the Credit Union will no longer issue new cheque books to customers. This includes renewal cheque books automatically issued or upon request.

From 31 October 2023, customers will not be able to deposit cheques at a branch.

Please note that while we will no longer be accepting cheques at our branches, you can still bank your cheques at Australia Post. Bank@Post is a convenient service offered by Australia Post that allows you to deposit cheques into your bank account at participating post offices. Please note, fees and charges may apply.

We will continue to offer corporate cheques (fees may apply) for customers looking to withdraw funds from their account.

Other ways to bank

There are a number of alternative payment methods available for you to consider:

  • Online payments. You can make payments via Internet banking or our mobile banking app, moneytree. To learn more here.
  • Visa debit card. Use your Illawarra Credit Union Visa Debit card to pay for items online, or when you're out and about. Order a Visa Debit card here.
  • Bank@Post. Visit one of 3,500 Australia Post locations across Australia to pay your bills using your Visa Debit card. Learn more here.
