Have you been sent a message via SMS, Email or WhatsApp saying that you have an outstanding road toll to pay? You may have been targeted by a "Toll Scam". The scam encourages you to click a link contained in the SMS, Email or WhatsApp to complete the "missed" payment or update your details.
This link directs the individual to a scam website that requests new card details which are then used to set up a digital wallet on a mobile device operated by a scammer.
A verification code is sent to the individual via SMS, and if this verification code is then sent to the scammer, they will be able to purchase items using the new digital wallet.
