Spotlight on our team: Lance Tarrrant

This month we are profiling one of our Banking Operations team members – Lance Tarrant.  We hope you enjoy getting to know more about Lance. 

Can you tell us about your role at Illawarra Credit Union?

My role is Banking Operations Analyst and covers a few different business functions including, Fraud, Collections and Deceased Estates.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are the same really. At the start of each month, I prepare reports that cover our Fraud and Collections departments but throughout the month, I test new systems and work on improving current or implementing new processes that benefit our members and staff. I also assist my team in their day-to-day activities and provide a helping hand wherever I can throughout the business.

What makes ICU stand out compared to other financial institutions, in your opinion?

I think Mutuals in general provide a more community focused approach to banking which ICU does really well with all the local programs we support. I was lucky enough to help run our stalls at UOW O-Week last year and the Wollongong Running Festival this year, these together with initiatives like Wave FM’s Pay your Bills and our partnership with IAS show how committed ICU is to giving back to the Illawarra.

What inspired you to pursue a career in financial services, and how has your journey led you to ICU?

Economics and finance were subjects I enjoyed learning about in school and went on with in Uni, which led me to where I am now. Not a lot exciting about my journey but I was drawn to ICU because of it being a local business I had seen around before.

Outside of work, do you have any hobbies or interests that you’re passionate about?

I love watching all and any sport, the Hawks winning the NBL this year was a real highlight.

What advice would you give to someone looking to work at Illawarra Credit Union?

Be prepared to learn and branch out! Since I first started in the Call Centre here, I’ve moved through multiple departments and been able to gain a lot of experience I’m not sure I could get somewhere else.
